Clark Wood are looking for an experienced Bookkeeping Manager to join a growing team of chartered accountants in Taunton. This is a hands-on role overseeing day-to-day bookkeeping across a varied portfolio of clients, while supporting and supervising a small bookkeeping team to ensure work is delivered accurately and on time.
You will play a key role in maintaining high standards, assisting with month-end and year-end processes, and ensuring all financial records are compliant with HMRC requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping for a diverse client portfolio
- Review and manage work produced by a small bookkeeping team
- Use Xero and QuickBooks to maintain accurate financial records
- Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns
- Assist with month-end and year-end procedures
- Liaise with managers and clients as required
- Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and internal deadlines
- Minimum of 2 years’ bookkeeping experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or multi-client environment
- Strong working knowledge of Xero (essential)
- Experience with QuickBooks (advantageous)
- Proven experience preparing VAT and CIS returns
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Confident working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
- Comfortable supporting or leading a small team
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- AAT Level 3 (or higher), or equivalent experience (desirable but not essential)
- Good Excel skills
- A professional, accurate, and methodical approach
