Clark Wood are looking for an experienced Bookkeeping Manager to join a growing team of chartered accountants in Taunton. This is a hands-on role overseeing day-to-day bookkeeping across a varied portfolio of clients, while supporting and supervising a small bookkeeping team to ensure work is delivered accurately and on time.

You will play a key role in maintaining high standards, assisting with month-end and year-end processes, and ensuring all financial records are compliant with HMRC requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping for a diverse client portfolio
  • Review and manage work produced by a small bookkeeping team
  • Use Xero and QuickBooks to maintain accurate financial records
  • Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns
  • Assist with month-end and year-end procedures
  • Liaise with managers and clients as required
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and internal deadlines
What We’re Looking For
  • Minimum of 2 years’ bookkeeping experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or multi-client environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero (essential)
  • Experience with QuickBooks (advantageous)
  • Proven experience preparing VAT and CIS returns
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Confident working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • Comfortable supporting or leading a small team
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Qualifications & Skills
  • AAT Level 3 (or higher), or equivalent experience (desirable but not essential)
  • Good Excel skills
  • A professional, accurate, and methodical approach
