Do you have extensive experience in Motor Insurance Underwriting? An exciting and rapidly growing Motor Insurer are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join their Customer Care team. This role plays a key part in protecting the business and customers by ensuring policies are compliant with underwriting rules, footprint and operational standards.
Sitting within the Underwriting Operations team, you’ll lead complex case reviews, identify operational and risk trends, and help strengthen how underwriting intent is delivered consistently at scale. You’ll act as an operational underwriting authority, balancing technical judgement, customer outcomes and regulatory expectations, while also owning the effective management of team capacity to ensure workloads are prioritised appropriately and service levels are met.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the day to day delivery of the Underwriting Operations function, ensuring timely and high quality underwriting outcomes.
- Line manage and support the Underwriting Operations team, providing clear direction, coaching and quality oversight, including effective planning and management of team capacity.
- Coordinate quality assurance across claim referrals and validation audits.
- Act as the escalation point for complex or sensitive underwriting cases, applying practical judgement in line with underwriting criteria and risk appetite.
- Work closely with Pricing to ensure referral criteria and acceptance rules.
- Identify operational trends, emerging risks or process gaps, presenting clear recommendations for improvement.
- Support continuous improvement of underwriting controls, processes and tooling across operational teams.
- Keep the business up to date with relevant regulatory and market developments within underwriting.
