Clarios is seeking an experienced Senior Modeling Engineer to lead the development of physics-based, data-driven, and system-level models supporting next-generation automotive energy storage systems. This role is responsible for creating, validating, and applying models for batteries, supercapacitors, battery management systems (BMS), charging systems, vehicle electrical architectures, and energy management strategies. The Senior Modeling Engineer will work across product development, advanced technology, systems engineering, controls, and customer engineering teams to enable virtual design validation, performance prediction, optimization, and accelerated product development. The role supports both traditional lead-acid technologies and emerging lithium-ion and sodium-ion energy storage systems for global automotive OEM customers.

Modeling & Simulation Development

  • Develop and maintain electrical, thermal, electrochemical, and system-level models of energy storage products.
  • Create battery equivalent circuit models (ECM), reduced-order models, and physics-based battery representations.
  • Develop battery aging, degradation, SOC, SOH, SOP, and RUL prediction models.
  • Build system simulations for: 12V vehicle networks, 48V vehicle architectures, Dual-voltage systems, Start-stop applications, xEV support functions, Intelligent power management systems.
  • Model interactions between battery systems, DC/DC converters, alternators, loads, and vehicle electrical networks.

Controls & Algorithm Development

  • Support development of: State of Charge (SOC) estimation algorithms, State of Health (SOH) estimation algorithms, State of Power (SOP) prediction algorithms.

Vehicle & Customer Application Analysis

  • Simulate vehicle electrical loads and duty cycles using customer data.
  • Analyze battery performance under: Cranking events, Regenerative charging, Idle-reduction strategies, Start-stop operation, Thermal extremes, Aging conditions.
  • Support OEM customer studies regarding battery sizing, architecture selection, and performance optimization.
  • Develop predictive models supporting proposal and pursuit activities.

Model Correlation & Validation

  • Correlate simulation results against laboratory and vehicle test data.
  • Develop validation methodologies to ensure model accuracy and robustness.
  • Conduct sensitivity studies and uncertainty analyses.
  • Establish modeling standards, assumptions, and best practices across the organization.

What we look for:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Related Engineering Discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of modeling and simulation experience.
  • MATLAB/Simulink Simscape State-space modeling.

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience developing battery models for: Lead-acid, AGM, Li-ion, Sodium-ion, Ultracapacitor systems.
