Clarion Housing Group
Clarion Housing Group is the UK's largest social landlord and one of the country's most significant social businesses. With more than 125,000 homes, over 360,000 residents, 4,000+ colleagues and annual turnover in excess of £1 billion, Clarion plays a critical role in addressing the nation's housing challenges while supporting thriving and sustainable communities across England.
Founded more than 125 years ago, Clarion exists to provide safe, high-quality and affordable homes for those who need them most. Today, the organisation combines the scale and sophistication of a major national enterprise with an unwavering commitment to social purpose. Through its housing association, development arm and charitable foundation, the Group delivers housing, regeneration, employment support, community investment and social impact at scale.
The organisation is investing heavily in both existing and new homes. During 2025/26, Clarion invested more than £450 million in maintaining and improving existing homes and completed 1,466 new homes, while continuing to drive improvements in resident satisfaction, service quality, building safety and operational performance. Significant investment in technology, digital transformation and sustainability is helping position Clarion to meet the evolving expectations of residents, regulators, government and wider society.
Following the highly successful leadership of its current Chief Executive Clare Miller, Clarion is now seeking an exceptional successor to lead the next chapter of its development. This is one of the most significant leadership appointments in UK housing and offers a unique opportunity to lead a highly influential, purpose-driven organisation with national reach and impact.
Candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:
- A successful track record of executive leadership at scale within a large, complex and customer-facing organisation.
- Proven delivery of organisational transformation, balancing operational excellence, financial discipline and customer outcomes.
- Experience leading in a complex stakeholder environment, ideally including regulators, government, investors and other organisations across public and private sectors.
- A genuine commitment to Clarion’s social purpose and improving residents’ lives.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including oversight of substantial budgets, major capital investment and complex organisational risk.
- Outstanding strategic judgement and the ability to position an organisation for long-term success amid political, economic and regulatory change.
- A visible, authentic and inclusive leadership style that inspires high-performing teams and builds accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the credibility to represent Clarion externally and contribute to national debate and policy development.
- Alongside their passion for the agenda, candidates will ideally bring an understanding of social housing, which may include direct experience in the sector.
Clarion is proud of its diverse workforce and inclusive culture. Nearly one in four colleagues come from ethnic minority backgrounds, and the organisation is committed to ensuring its leadership reflects the communities it serves. Applications from people from underrepresented groups are particularly welcomed.
Closing date: 12 noon 9 November.
