Bridging Housing and Social Care to Transform Outcomes for Residents. At Clarion, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, supported and secure in their home. We're introducing a new kind of social work role. What if housing and social care worked together around the person, rather than residents having to navigate the boundaries between different organisations? We want to help make that happen.
We're creating a new Social Worker (Housing) role, bringing professional social work expertise directly into our housing environment and helping us build stronger connections between housing, adult social care, health, safeguarding and community services. This is an opportunity to help shape a role from the beginning. You'll work alongside housing colleagues and external partners to find solutions for residents whose circumstances cannot be addressed by housing intervention alone. Your focus will be on understanding the whole person, their home, strengths, relationships, risks and aspirations, and bringing the right organisations together around them. The ambition is simple: fewer gaps, fewer hand-offs and better outcomes for residents.
That approach complements Clarion's existing vulnerability model, which is centred on coordinated, outcome-focused support, early intervention, reduced harm, improved wellbeing and independence, sustainable tenancies and stronger partnership working.
Why we're creating this role: Housing is about much more than bricks and mortar. A secure, appropriate home can be fundamental to someone's health, independence, safety and connection to their community. Clarion's Five New Giants of Opportunity report identifies Connection, Resilience, Sufficiency, Trust and Health as the foundations of a new social contract for housing and calls for fresh thinking and partnership working beyond traditional organisational boundaries. The report was published in November 2025 and examines the changing social, economic, technological and demographic pressures affecting residents and communities. Our Resident Strategy builds on this thinking. It recognises that housing is connected to wellbeing, finances, safety and community life, while focusing on good homes, dependable services and relationships built on trust. The Social Worker (Housing) will help us turn those ambitions into practice.
What you’ll do: You’ll bring a professional social work perspective to some of the situations where housing, health and social care intersect. This role will provide specialist social work expertise to support residents experiencing vulnerability, helping them achieve positive outcomes through strengths-based, person-centred practice. You'll undertake holistic assessments, identify risks and support needs, and work with residents to develop practical solutions where housing and social care issues are closely connected. You'll build strong relationships with statutory and community partners, including Adult Social Care, the NHS, mental health services and safeguarding teams, ensuring coordinated and effective support for residents.
The successful candidate will contribute to complex case discussions, safeguarding processes and multi-agency planning, bringing professional knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and adult safeguarding principles into a housing setting. You'll also support colleagues to navigate social care pathways, identify opportunities to improve partnership working, and use learning from individual cases to influence service development and improve outcomes across the organisation. This complements Clarion's established approach of person-centred practice, named ownership, accessible communication, risk and outcome review, resident voice and 'partnership by design'.
Partnership will be at the heart of the role. We don't expect one organisation or one professional to have all the answers. The role will seek to strengthen the interface between housing, social care, health and the voluntary and community sector, enabling partners to build solutions around residents rather than organisational boundaries. That means developing relationships with partners, understanding their statutory responsibilities and pressures, and creating routes through which information, professional expertise and interventions can come together around the resident. This reflects Clarion's strategic call for greater cross-sector collaboration with health, local authorities and community partners. You'll be a connector as much as a practitioner.
The person we're looking for: We're looking for someone who is professionally curious, practical and determined to make systems work better for people. You'll be comfortable moving between two worlds: understanding the statutory framework and practical application.
