Overview
As Defence Journalist you will shape the editorial voice for DSEI Gateway, delivering original, high-impact defence journalism that grows the brand’s credibility for a senior B2B audience. You’ll work within Clarion’s London-based editorial team to publish timely, accurate content across news, features and explainers, while sourcing insights from senior figures and industry experts. The role blends newsroom rigor with audience growth, contributing to the wider Defence Digital ecosystem. This is a chance to influence coverage and brand authority in a dynamic, global events business.

Responsibilities
- Write concise, engaging news articles, features and explainers on the defence industry
- Identify breaking stories and timely angles
- Secure interviews with senior stakeholders globally
- Research, write and curate content for monthly and weekly newsletters
- Maintain consistency with style guidelines across content
- Contribute ideas for coverage and content strategy for the DSEI website
- Uphold high standards of journalism ethics and accuracy
- Support live event coverage (e.g., DSEI) with customer-centric content
- Adapt to different content formats, including video
- Represent Clarion professionally at conferences and events
Key requirements
- Demonstrable experience as a journalist/reporter, preferably in a B2B media environment
- Ability to translate complex/technical topics into engaging editorial for a high-level audience
- Strong news sense and commitment to accuracy and ethics
- Proven ability to build rapport with senior stakeholders and conduct high-level interviews
- Foundational interest in the global defence industry (platforms, technologies, geopolitics, procurement)
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Degree in International Relations, War Studies, Journalism, or related field is advantageous
