We have an exciting opportunity in the Confex Operations team for an Operations Manager. The role will focus on delivering and managing operations for conferences and exhibitions primarily within the EnergyNet portfolio. EnergyNet focuses on developing energy for Africa and has events taking place across Europe, Middle East, America, and Africa. This role is hybrid (three days in the office) and mainly office‑based with on‑site working during events, requiring international travel and occasional weekend or evening work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operational delivery of 4 to 6 events across Africa, Middle East, Europe and America, from conception to completion.
  • Manage event operations budgets, future planning, and forecasting in line with budget expectations.
  • Report to and work with the Portfolio Director on operational strategy for each event.
  • Responsibility for event timelines and task allocation to team members as required.
  • Source suppliers, negotiate and manage contracts with venues and key contractors.
  • Understand venue contracts and terms and conditions terminology.
  • Consult with the event team on production, marketing, sales, and finance to ensure full awareness of all event elements.
  • Produce and communicate correct and detailed technical information for exhibitors, including creating an exhibitor manual or zone.
  • Ensure delivery and fulfilment of all sponsorship and exhibitor packages, such as stands, branding, branded items, and features.
  • Design and manage floor plans, event signage and the show guide.
  • Manage health & safety issues and decisions; compile a comprehensive health and safety file for each event, including risk assessments and Construction Phase Plans, ensuring all documents are thoroughly checked and verified.
  • Conduct post‑show evaluation and development.
  • Attend training courses as directed by the Line Manager.
  • Collaborate with other operations teams across the business and participate in working groups.
  • Be available to travel worldwide.
  • Work flexible hours, including long hours leading up to an event when required.
  • Willing to work across other events within the group where schedules require.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience delivering high‑quality events and coping in high‑pressure situations within a fast‑paced environment, never losing focus on important details.
  • Proven experience in the events industry.
  • Experience designing and coordinating feature builds for exhibitions.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven experience creating and managing event operations budgets, future planning, forecasting, and delivering on target.
  • Familiarity with e‑Guide and g‑Guide and experience managing onsite health & safety.
  • Health & Safety Course qualification desirable, preferably IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Ability to think outside the box and generate innovative ideas that make events stand out.
  • Analytical mindset to continually assess and improve processes.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technology and IT systems.
  • Self‑motivated, proactive, and takes on responsibility.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and resolve problems under pressure.
