As a General Operative, you will play a key role in delivering a wide range of civil engineering and utility works across our projects.

Working as part of a site team, you will carry out construction activities safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards, supporting the successful delivery of projects for our clients across East Anglia the East Midlands and South Lincolnshire.

The role is varied and will involve working on water, wastewater, highways and infrastructure schemes throughout our operational areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Duties
  • Carry out general civil engineering and groundwork activities.
  • Assist with excavations, reinstatements, ducting, drainage, pipe laying and concreting works.
  • Operate hand tools, small plant and equipment safely and efficiently (where trained and authorised).
  • Load, unload and move materials, tools and equipment around site.
  • Assist with setting up and maintaining safe working areas, including barriers, signage and traffic management.
  • Support colleagues to ensure work is completed safely, on programme and to the required quality standards.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and keep work areas clean and organised.
  • Follow instructions from Supervisors, Gangers and Site Managers.
  • Administration
  • Complete timesheets, plant records and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Record work activities using company systems where required.
  • Notify your manager promptly of any absence or issues affecting attendance.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures and client requirements.
  • Health, Safety and Environmental
  • Work safely at all times and comply with company and client health and safety requirements.
  • Wear and maintain the correct PPE for each task.
  • Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses and incidents.
  • Take part in site briefings, toolbox talks and safety initiatives.
  • Help maintain clean, safe and environmentally responsible working areas.
  • Support the company's commitment to achieving the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Vehicles and Equipment
  • Use company vehicles, plant and equipment responsibly and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Carry out daily checks on vehicles, tools and equipment where required.
  • Report defects or damage immediately.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are kept clean, secure and serviceable.
  • General
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors and clients.
  • Attend training courses and development opportunities as required.
  • Be flexible in supporting different projects and operational requirements.
  • Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role.
  • Comply with GDPR and maintain confidentiality where required.

Experience and Qualifications

Desirable (training can be provided for the right candidate)

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • EUSR Water Hygiene
  • NRSWA (Street Works)
  • Confined Spaces
  • CPCS or NPORS Plant Operator
  • Emergency First Aid at Work

Previous experience within civil engineering, utilities, construction or groundwork is desirable but not essential.
