We are looking for a motivated and reliable Cleaner to join our team at the Practice. Main duties of the job
As a Cleaner at the Practice, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all areas of the practice, following agreed cleaning schedules and procedures. You will ensure that equipment is used safely, consumables are replenished, and waste is disposed of appropriately in line with policies. The role also includes carrying out regular flushing of water systems, supporting cleanliness audits, and reporting any faults or issues to the Operational Manager. Attention to detail, a methodical approach, and adherence to health and safety standards are essential.

Job responsibilities
Job Summary The role of the Cleaner is to ensure that high standards of cleanliness and hygiene are consistently achieved across all areas of the practice. This is an essential role in supporting patient care, ensuring compliance with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021, and contributing to infection prevention and control. The post holder will carry out cleaning duties according to agreed schedules and policies, ensuring safe use of equipment and adherence to relevant health and safety regulations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain cleaning standards using recognised quality control procedures, as set out in the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2021.
- Keep robust and accurate cleaning records for auditing purposes.
- Follow the practice’s cleaning schedules and procedures in all designated areas.
- Ensure correct cleaning methods are applied at all times.
- Use cleaning equipment safely and effectively, following manufacturers instructions.
- Replenish consumables (e.g. hand towels, soap, toilet rolls) as required.
- Remove waste in line with the Waste Management Policy and the organisation’s Environmental and Sustainability Policy.
- Always follow the colour coding system for cleaning materials and equipment.
- Store all cleaning products securely and in accordance with COSHH and other relevant legislation.
- Carry out legionella flushing of water systems as directed.
- Report faults, defective equipment or maintenance issues promptly to the Operational Manager.
- Take part in regular cleanliness audits and implement action plans to address any areas for improvement.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Participate in general audits as directed by the audit lead.
- Provide support to new members of staff as part of their induction.
- Offer assistance to other members of the team when required.
Person Specification
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow policies and procedures accurately.
- Ability to manage and monitor stock effectively.
- Knowledge of COSHH and Health and Safety at Work requirements.
- Flexibility to work outside of standard office hours.
- Willingness to undergo a DBS check.

Qualifications
- Desirable: City & Guilds Level 2 in Cleaning, or equivalent.
- Good standard of written and spoken English to carry out duties safely and effectively.
- Willingness to undertake mandatory training as required (e.g. Health & Safety, Infection Control, COSHH).
- City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles (or equivalent qualification).
- Evidence of relevant training in health and safety, COSHH or manual handling.
Experience
- Desirable: Previous cleaning experience in a healthcare or similar setting.
- Ability to demonstrate a methodical and safe approach to cleaning tasks.
- Experience of working independently and managing own workload.
- Previous experience in a similar role within healthcare, education, or another regulated environment.
- Experience of maintaining cleaning records and following cleaning schedules.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control procedures.
