The Irish Football Association is continuing to develop with real momentum. Investment in facilities and governance is delivering results. Participation across the game is growing, and both the mens and womens senior teams are moving forward positively. A strong pipeline of talent is emerging from the national academies, while the new National Football Centre at Galgorm underlines a clear, long-term commitment to sustainability and performance.

As part of a planned succession process, the Irish FA is seeking to appoint an Independent Board Member, who will also act as Senior Independent Director. The Senior Independent Director supports the Board in meeting its statutory, fiduciary and regulatory responsibilities, and works closely with the Chair to ensure the Board operates effectively and with integrity. This is a key governance role, providing independent judgement, constructive challenge and external perspective.

The successful candidate will contribute actively to setting strategic direction, bringing independent thinking and sound judgement to complex decisions. From time to time, they will also act as an ambassador for the Irish FA externally.

We are seeking a credible and experienced Board member with a strong track record and impact at board level within a complex organisation or professional advisory environment. You will have a deep understanding of corporate governance, risk, accountability and assurance, alongside the confidence to challenge constructively when required. Strong communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders are essential. An appreciation of the positive role sport can play in communities across Northern Ireland is important.
