We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Science Technician to join a successful Science Department. The role involves providing practical and technical support to teaching staff and students to ensure the effective delivery of high-quality science lessons.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting teaching and learning by ensuring laboratories are well prepared, safely managed and appropriately resourced. While previous experience in a similar role is desirable, full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare materials, equipment and resources for science lessons and practical activities.
- Set up and dismantle experiments, demonstrations and practical equipment as requested.
- Maintain science laboratories and preparation areas, ensuring they are clean, safe and organised.
- Carry out routine safety checks on equipment and assist with risk assessments for technical activities.
- Prepare chemicals and solutions in line with health and safety requirements.
- Collect, store and manage apparatus, chemicals and learning resources efficiently.
- Dispose of waste materials safely and appropriately.
- Assist teaching staff and students during practical sessions when required.
- Identify, repair or arrange repair of damaged equipment.
- Support stock control and liaise with staff regarding equipment usage and availability.
- Contribute to the development of new practical activities and demonstrations.
- A practical, organised and methodical approach to work.
- Awareness of health and safety procedures within a laboratory environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to support staff and students during practical activities.
- Experience in a science or technical support role is desirable but not essential.
