The Opportunity
This is a rare chance to join a well-established, forward-thinking law firm that genuinely does things differently. Based in St Albans, this values-led practice has been operating for over 30 years with a clear ethos: delivering outstanding legal services without the ego, hierarchy or burnout often associated with traditional private practice. The firm operates more like a service business that happens to provide legal advice and has a clear, well-considered growth plan for the next five to ten years.
Following the departure of a long-standing property lawyer, the firm is now seeking a Senior Property Solicitor to play a key role in shaping the future of its Property team.
The Firm
The firm is home to five established departments:
- Property (commercial and residential)
- Dispute Resolution
- Company and Commercial
- Private Client
- A specialist cross-border practice serving UK and international clients
It has been fully paperless for almost two decades, embraces technology, and supports hybrid working as standard. Planned growth includes adding new departments, and building each team to a consistent, sustainable structure with clear leadership accountability.
Culture and Values
Culture is not a slogan here, it is how the firm operates day to day. The firm is built around three core values:
- Humility: thinking more about others, not less of yourself
- High Achievement: delivering excellent outcomes for clients while helping people be the best version of themselves
- Honourable: doing the right thing, including owning and fixing mistakes
This is a genuinely low-ego environment where contribution matters more than title. The role will suit someone collaborative, supportive and client-focused rather than status-driven.
The Role
This is a senior and influential appointment within the Property team, with real scope to shape how the department evolves. Key elements of the role include:
- Leading on commercial property work, which is the core focus of the position
- Handling some high-end residential property matters as required
- Supervising and developing a junior conveyancer or solicitor
- Progressively overseeing two paralegals as the team structure develops
- Working closely with senior leadership as they step back from day-to-day fee earning and focus on strategic management
- Contributing to the development of processes, client service standards and team culture during a planned period of growth and transition
Over time, the role is intended to become predominantly commercial property focused, with oversight responsibility for the residential offering rather than carrying a heavy residential caseload personally. There is clear scope for this role to develop into a broader leadership position within the department for someone who enjoys mentoring, shaping teams and taking ownership. This appointment is central to achieving a structured Property team and offers a genuine opportunity to be part of longer-term leadership planning within the department.
Working Pattern and Flexibility
Hybrid working is fully supported, typically around two to three days per week in the office. The firm is well set up for remote working but values in-person collaboration and team connection. Full-time working is preferred due to the nature of property work, although flexibility can be discussed.
Who This Role Will Suit
A commercial property solicitor with some residential exposure, around 5+ PQE as a guideline. Someone who enjoys client contact, mentoring others and helping to build something sustainable. A lawyer who values culture, collaboration and integrity alongside technical excellence. Someone ready to step away from a more traditional or hierarchical environment while continuing to deliver high-quality work.
Location: St Albans with hybrid working. This role offers more than just a move. It offers influence, stability and the opportunity to play a meaningful part in the long-term direction of a growing and values-led firm.
