If you enjoy the technical challenges of construction law, value strong client relationships and would like to play an active role in a successful and growing practice, this could be an excellent next move.
We are working with a well-established Suffolk law firm looking to recruit a Senior Construction Solicitor with at least 8 years' PQE. Based in Bury St Edmunds, this is an opportunity to join a respected team advising a varied client base on construction matters, with a particular emphasis on contentious work.
The firm combines the knowledge and expertise you would expect from a larger practice with a more personal, relationship-led approach. Its construction team is consistently recognised in the leading legal directories and has built a strong reputation both locally and further afield.
Why consider this opportunity?
- High-quality construction work: Advise on complex and commercially important construction matters for a varied client base.
- A strong contentious focus: Work on adjudications, TCC proceedings and a range of construction disputes.
- An established reputation: Join a team recognised by both Legal 500 and Chambers for its construction expertise.
- A personal approach: Enjoy the benefits of a close-knit team where client relationships and practical advice are genuinely valued.
- Opportunity to influence: Contribute to the continued development of the team and help build its presence in the market.
- A supportive environment: Work alongside knowledgeable colleagues who are committed to sharing expertise and supporting one another.
- Hybrid working: Benefit from a flexible approach alongside a comprehensive package of additional benefits.
The role
You will handle your own caseload of construction matters, providing commercially focused advice to clients while also supporting colleagues on more complex cases and contributing to the wider development of the department.
The team advises throughout the lifecycle of construction and development projects, working with developers, main contractors, sub-contractors, funders, construction professionals and individuals.
Your work will include:
- Managing contentious construction matters, including adjudications and Technology and Construction Court (TCC) proceedings.
- Advising on construction disputes and helping clients identify practical and commercially sensible solutions.
- Providing high-quality advice to developers, contractors, sub-contractors and other construction professionals.
- Supporting colleagues with their matters and contributing to the team's collective expertise.
- Managing client relationships, conducting meetings and providing clear advice on legal issues, costs and scope of work.
- Drafting legal documents, correspondence and advice.
- Managing your own caseload, financial housekeeping and matter progression.
- Contributing to business development and identifying opportunities to strengthen the team's client base.
There may also be scope to become involved in non-contentious construction work, depending on your experience and interests.
This is a senior appointment, so the firm is looking for someone who can bring sound judgement, technical ability and confidence in dealing with clients, while also contributing positively to the team.
About you
You will be an experienced Construction Solicitor with at least 8 years' PQE and a strong background in contentious construction work.
In particular, you will have experience of:
- Managing your own construction caseload.
- Advising on construction disputes.
- Acting in adjudications.
- Technology and Construction Court proceedings.
- Providing commercially focused advice to a range of construction-sector clients.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships.
You will also be someone who enjoys working collaboratively, supporting colleagues and sharing your knowledge.
Experience in non-contentious construction work would be beneficial, as would an interest in business development, presenting and helping to grow a team.
