Family Law Fee Earner – 4-Day Working Week | Suffolk in Framlingham

Framlingham Full-Time No working from home possible
C

A varied private family caseload, genuine autonomy and a four-day working week

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Family Law Fee Earner to join an established and supportive family team working across Suffolk.

This is a role where exact PQE is less important than your ability to manage your own caseload confidently and independently. Whether you are a Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive or experienced Family Fee Earner, if you have the technical ability and confidence to run your own privately funded family matters, we would be interested in speaking with you.

Why this role?

A genuine four-day working week

the firm operates a standard condensed-hours arrangement, allowing you to work your five days' hours over four days. Other flexible arrangements would also be considered.

Flexible location

you can be based from the Framlingham office, with the role supporting work across the firm's wider office network.

Hybrid working

once you are established in the role and have got to know the team, clients and systems, there is scope for an element of home working too.

Real autonomy

you will have responsibility for your own caseload and the opportunity to build trusted relationships with your clients.

Interesting work

a broad privately funded caseload means plenty of variation rather than being restricted to one narrow area of family law.

The role

You will manage a varied caseload of privately funded family matters, taking responsibility for files from initial instruction through to conclusion.

Your work is likely to include:

  • Divorce and dissolution of civil partnerships
  • Financial remedy proceedings
  • Cohabitation disputes
  • Private children matters, including child arrangements and specific issue applications
  • Domestic abuse and injunction proceedings
  • Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
  • Separation and cohabitation agreements
  • Enforcement and variation applications

You will have the opportunity to handle matters with a good degree of independence, while having experienced colleagues available when you need support.

You will also liaise with counsel, experts and other professionals, attend hearings and mediations where appropriate, and ensure matters are progressed efficiently and professionally.

About you

We are deliberately not putting a rigid PQE requirement on this role.

What matters most is that you have enough practical family law experience to pick up a caseload and run it independently.

You might be a:

  • Family Solicitor
  • Chartered Legal Executive
  • Experienced Family Law Fee Earner

You should have experience across a reasonable range of private family work, particularly divorce, financial matters and private children work, together with strong drafting, negotiation and client-handling skills.

Just as importantly, you will be someone who is organised, proactive and comfortable taking responsibility for your own files.

Family law can be highly personal and emotionally demanding, so empathy, discretion and the ability to communicate clearly with clients are essential.

More than just fee earning

The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of the Family Department.

You will be encouraged to develop relationships with professional referrers and local contacts, participate in networking and marketing activity and contribute to the firm's wider profile.

There is also scope to support and contribute to the development of the team as your experience grows.

The working environment

This is a firm that understands that good lawyers do not necessarily need to be sitting at their desks five days a week to do a great job.

The condensed-hours model is already part of the way the firm operates, with your normal five-day working week compressed into four days.

Once you are established, there is also the opportunity to introduce an element of home working, giving you greater flexibility while maintaining the face-to-face connection with colleagues and clients.

For someone looking for a sustainable family law career without sacrificing interesting work or professional responsibility, this is a particularly attractive set-up.

Interested? Lets talk

If you are an experienced family lawyer who can confidently manage your own caseload, but would like a working environment that gives you a little more flexibility, this could be well worth exploring.

And if you don't tick every box but have solid family law experience and the confidence to work independently, please get in touch anyway. The firm is open to the right person rather than simply looking for a particular number of years' PQE.
