Senior Associate / Partner | Suffolk | Strategic Leadership Role | Hybrid Working

If you're an experienced Commercial Property lawyer who has reached the point where another year of doing more of the same isn't particularly appealing, this could offer something different.

We are looking for a Senior Associate or Partner-level Commercial Property lawyer to take on a strategically important role within the Real Estate team of a large and highly regarded regional firm.

This is more than a senior fee-earning position. You'll have the opportunity to manage and develop people, influence the direction of the team and contribute to the wider strategy for the Commercial Property practice.

It could be particularly interesting if you've hit a ceiling where you are, are already taking on Partner-level responsibilities without the recognition, or simply feel ready for a change.

A role with genuine influence

You’ll join an established Commercial Property practice with good-quality work, experienced lawyers and a strong client base.

The firm is now looking for someone senior who can add another dimension to that team.

Alongside your own client work, you’ll:

  • Manage, support and develop lawyers within the team
  • Provide strategic input into the direction and development of the Commercial Property practice
  • Help allocate and oversee work across the team
  • Support colleagues with more complex technical matters
  • Play an active part in developing people and identifying progression opportunities
  • Strengthen existing client and referrer relationships
  • Help identify opportunities for growth across Suffolk and the wider region
  • Work collaboratively with other departments on cross-discipline opportunities

You’ll have a voice in how the team develops, rather than simply being expected to inherit a caseload and hit a target.

The work

The wider Commercial Property team acts for a varied client base including investors, developers, landlords, tenants, lenders and corporate occupiers.

Work spans areas such as:

  • Acquisitions and disposals
  • Investment property
  • Landlord and tenant
  • Commercial leases
  • Development work
  • Portfolio management
  • Property finance
  • Corporate occupier work
  • Real estate aspects of wider corporate and commercial transactions

There is plenty of existing work, but at this level the firm is also looking for someone who can bring strong relationships and an established network within the local market.

That doesn't necessarily mean arriving with a substantial portable following. It does mean knowing the market, having established professional connections and enjoying the relationship-building side of senior practice.

Who could this suit?

You may already be a Commercial Property Partner

and simply fancy a different environment, client base or challenge.

you might be a Senior Associate or Legal Director who is already operating at something close to Partner level:

Managing people, maintaining important client relationships, helping generate work and contributing to decisions about the team.

If partnership feels permanently one or two years away, despite you already doing much of the job, this is certainly worth exploring.

We’re looking for someone who combines:

  • Strong Commercial Property expertise
  • Experience managing, supervising or developing other lawyers
  • The confidence to contribute to team strategy
  • Good commercial judgement
  • An established professional network in Suffolk and the surrounding area
  • Strong client and referrer relationships
  • An appetite for business development and practice growth
  • A collaborative leadership style

A substantial firm, without losing your individual influence

One of the attractions of this opportunity is the balance.

You’ll have the infrastructure, cross-referrals, established clients and specialist expertise of a large regional firm, but this is still a role where an individual senior lawyer can make a visible difference.

The firm is interested in your ideas, your relationships and what you could bring to the future of the team.

Flexibility and an excellent benefits package

The firm offers hybrid and agile working, alongside a benefits package that includes:

  • Unlimited paid time off
  • 6% employer pension contribution
  • Life Assurance at 3x salary after probation
  • Permanent Health Insurance
  • Health cash plan
  • Enhanced maternity and sick pay
  • Employee Assistance Programme and wider wellbeing support
  • Practising certificate, professional subscriptions and CPD costs covered
  • In-house Learning & Development
  • Leadership development programmes
  • Cycle to Work and car lease schemes
  • Discounted gym membership

As with other senior appointments, there is value in being visible and connected to the team, particularly while getting established, alongside the flexibility to work from home.

Hit a ceiling, or simply ready for something different?

You don't need to be unhappy where you are to be interested in what else might be possible.

Perhaps you're already doing much of a Partner's job but the opportunity to progress isn't materialising. Perhaps you're a Partner who wants more strategic influence or a different culture. Or perhaps you've simply been in the same place for a long time and are curious about what a change could look like.

Whatever the reason, a conversation doesn't commit you to anything.

And if you're wondering whether your experience, network or current title is quite what they're looking for, don't rule yourself out before we've spoken.

All conversations are confidential and without obligation.
