Our Environmental team is critical to our business, providing advice across all phases of planned and unplanned work. They establish baseline conditions on environmental aspects, and impacts, that could adversely affect operations.

The Environmental Technician will carry out sampling of waste materials, mainly spoil and tarmac, to ensure Anglian Water complies with the Streetworks Protocol. You will also support sampling on small capital works outside the protocol and provide guidance on waste handling when needed. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new role within a forward thinking team, supporting high quality delivery, strong regulatory relationships, and responsible environmental practice. You will travel throughout the Anglian Water region including Lincoln, Grantham and Peterborough.

These are just some of the activities you’ll be involved with:

  • Collect and record soil and asphalt samples from small excavations across the region
  • Send samples to approved laboratories and upload findings to internal systems
  • Check compliance with the Streetworks Protocol through site audits and sample assessments
  • Support sampling and waste-management guidance for small capital projects
  • Offer advice on compliant waste handling and address any related non-compliance issues
  • Apply Safer Every Day principles in all tasks
  • Collaborate with HSW teams to evaluate sampling-related safety risks
  • Promote a proactive, behavioural-based safety culture
  • Ensure sampling activities follow CDM regulations and internal safety standards
  • Act as a safety advocate on site, encouraging safe practices and raising concerns

We would love to hear from you if you can demonstrate the following:

  • A Bachelor of Science or equivalent practical experience is essential, along with a background in similar roles.
  • Experience in the water industry or another highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills are key to succeeding in this position.
  • A full UK driving license is also required.
