We’re innovative
That’s why we need people like you to help us. People who enjoy finding new ways to solve problems and get things done.
We’re looking for a Project Manager with a construction or civil engineering background to join our team delivering projects for Southern Water.
This isn’t a general project management role. You’ll need experience delivering construction, civil engineering or utilities projects, ideally within the water sector, and be comfortable working with site teams, designers, commercial colleagues and specialist subcontractors to get projects safely built and handed over.
You’ll manage a portfolio of water and wastewater projects from award through design and construction to commissioning and handover. The work is varied and can include civil engineering, MEICA installations, pipelines, pumping infrastructure and other water and wastewater assets.
Here are some of the activities you’ll be involved in...
- Taking ownership of projects from award through to construction, commissioning and handover.
- Managing programme, cost, quality and HSEQ performance across your projects.
- Working closely with site teams to make sure projects have the right resources, information and support to keep delivery moving.
- Coordinating design and construction requirements, working through technical and buildability issues with designers and engineering specialists.
- Managing civil engineering and MEICA elements within a multi-disciplinary delivery environment.
- Developing and monitoring project programmes, identifying delays or risks early and taking action to keep delivery on track.
- Working alongside the commercial team on project costs, change and compensation events.
- Managing suppliers and specialist subcontractors and making sure their work supports the overall project programme.
- Building a strong working relationship with Southern Water and keeping them informed throughout delivery.
- Working within NEC contract processes and ensuring the right project and contractual records are maintained.
- Making sure projects meet our safety, environmental and quality standards and CDM requirements.
- Attending sites regularly to understand progress, challenge issues and support the teams delivering the work.
We’d love to hear from you if...
First and foremost, you’ll need hands-on experience delivering construction, civil engineering or utilities projects. We’re particularly interested in people who have worked within water or wastewater, although experience from another infrastructure or utilities environment could also be relevant.
You might already be a Project Manager, or you may have progressed through roles such as Site Agent, Site Manager, Project Engineer or Construction Manager and now be managing projects in your own right.
You’ll understand what it takes to deliver work on site, not just manage a project plan. You’ll be comfortable working with programmes, commercial teams, construction methodology, design, subcontractors, HSEQ requirements and the inevitable challenges that come with live construction projects.
Experience of MEICA projects would be particularly useful, but we’d also be interested in strong civil engineering Project Managers with relevant water or utilities experience.
Experience working with NEC contracts would be advantageous, along with relevant construction qualifications or training such as HNC/HND/Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, SMSTS and CSCS.
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes ownership, knows what good site delivery looks like and can bring different teams together to get the job done.
