We do what we say.

That means having the right people, the right equipment and the right attitude to safely deliver our work.

We’re looking for an experienced HGV Class 2/HIAB & Plant Operator to join our team working on our UK Power Networks Overhead Line contract.

This is more than a driving role.

You’ll work alongside our Overhead Line gangs, supporting the replacement, installation and removal of poles and associated plant activities across the contract.

You’ll be responsible for safely transporting, loading and unloading plant and equipment, as well as supporting specialist OHL activities using HIAB and auger vehicles.

Here are some of the activities you’ll be involved in...

  • Driving and safely operating HGV Class 2 vehicles across the UKPN contract.
  • Operating HIAB / Lorry Loader equipment in line with your training and authorisations.
  • Transporting plant, poles, materials and equipment to and from OHL work sites.
  • Safely loading, securing and unloading excavators and other construction plant.
  • Supporting the use of auger lorries for pole installation activities where trained and authorised.
  • Working alongside Linespersons and OHL operatives during planned shutdown activities.
  • Carrying out daily vehicle, lifting equipment and plant checks and reporting any defects.
  • Ensuring loads are correctly secured and transported safely.
  • Maintaining safe working areas during vehicle and plant movements.
  • Following site-specific RAMS, UKPN requirements and Clancy Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.
  • Ensuring vehicles and equipment are maintained to a high standard and operated in accordance with legal requirements and the Highway Code.
  • We’d love to hear from you if…

You have a full UK driving licence, HGV Class 2 / Category C licence and valid Driver CPC, together with an appropriate HIAB / Lorry Loader qualification.

You’ll have previous experience operating HGVs and lifting equipment, with a good understanding of load security, plant transportation and safe vehicle movements.

Safety will be important to you, and you’ll be comfortable working as part of an operational team in a safety-critical environment.

We’re particularly interested in candidates who have experience with excavator 360° below and/or above 10 tonnes, excavator lifting operations, beavertail vehicles or auger equipment.

Experience supporting overhead line or pole installation activities would also be advantageous.

Previous experience within utilities, a DNO or overhead electricity networks would be beneficial, as would NRSWA/Streetworks and NPORS or CPCS plant qualifications.

Existing UK Power Networks competencies or authorisations would also be advantageous, although previous UKPN experience isn't essential for the right candidate.

You’ll be someone who takes pride in your vehicle and equipment and understands that this role is about supporting the wider OHL operation, rather than simply getting from A to B.

You’ll be reliable, professional and willing to get involved with the team and the work on site.

If you have a strong HGV/HIAB background combined with plant experience and are looking to work within a specialist overhead line operation, we’d love to hear from you.
