Are you an experienced Commercial Claims Handler who enjoys taking ownership of claims, working closely with clients and insurers, and improving the way things are done? CKB Recruitment is working with a growing independent insurance business that is looking to appoint an experienced Commercial Claims Handler to strengthen its claims capability across the South Coast. This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety.

You’ll manage a portfolio of commercial claims across Employers’ Liability, Public Liability and Property, while also providing oversight around elements of the business’s fleet claims reporting. Just as importantly, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape how the claims function operates as the business continues to grow.

The role

  • Take responsibility for managing both existing and new commercial claims from notification through to settlement, acting as a key point of contact for clients and working closely with insurers, loss adjusters and other third parties.
  • Handle a range of Employers’ Liability, Public Liability and Property claims.
  • Manage claims from first notification through to resolution.
  • Provide regular updates and guidance to clients throughout the claims process.
  • Liaise with insurers, loss adjusters, solicitors and other relevant parties.
  • Review claim progress and help drive matters towards a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Assist with the oversight and reporting of fleet claims.
  • Maintain accurate claims records and produce relevant reporting.
  • Identify areas where claims processes can be improved.
  • Help the business introduce more structured and robust claims procedures as it grows.
  • Work closely with colleagues across the wider broking team.

What are they looking for?

This opportunity would suit someone who already has solid experience handling commercial insurance claims and is comfortable managing cases with a good degree of autonomy. Ideally, you’ll have experience across areas such as:

  • Employers’ Liability
  • Public Liability
  • Commercial Property
  • Commercial Motor or Fleet claims

You’ll need to be confident communicating with clients, insurers and external parties, with the technical knowledge to understand how claims should progress and the organisation to keep multiple cases moving at the same time. Just as important will be your ability to look at how things are currently being done and suggest ways to make the claims process more effective.

Future progression

Initially, this is very much a hands-on claims position. However, the business is growing and expects its claims requirements to expand over time. As that happens, there could be an opportunity for the successful person to help build and potentially lead a wider claims team in the future. There is no expectation that you step straight into management. The immediate priority is finding someone who can take ownership of the current claims workload and help develop a stronger claims framework for the business.

Location and working pattern

The business is particularly interested in candidates based around: Poole | Bournemouth | Southampton. The role will be hybrid, with two days per week office-based. Initially, those two office days will need to be worked from the company’s Newbury office. The business is currently planning to secure and launch a new office in the Poole area within the next three months. Once that office is established, the intention is for the successful person’s office-based days to move across to the new Poole location. There is some flexibility around how this is structured for the right individual, but candidates will need to be comfortable travelling to Newbury two days per week during the initial period.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants the flexibility of hybrid working while still being closely involved with a growing independent insurance business. If you’re an experienced Commercial Claims Handler looking for a role where you can have genuine input, take ownership of claims and potentially grow with the business over the longer term, we’d be very interested in hearing from you.
