This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced healthcare professional looking to work within a specialist education environment, supporting young people with complex needs and helping ensure they receive safe, effective and person-centred care throughout their college experience.
The Role
The Medical Lead will take responsibility for coordinating and overseeing the medical needs of learners, working closely with college staff, families, healthcare professionals and external agencies.
You will play an important role in ensuring appropriate healthcare plans, medical procedures and support arrangements are in place for learners with complex needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day medical and healthcare needs of SEND learners
- Develop and maintain individual healthcare plans
- Support learners with complex medical and physical needs
- Coordinate medication and medical procedures
- Liaise with parents, carers, NHS services and external healthcare professionals
- Work alongside SEND, education and therapy teams
- Provide advice and guidance to college staff regarding individual medical needs
- Support staff training around specific medical procedures where required
- Respond appropriately to medical incidents and emergencies
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records
- Contribute to risk assessments and safeguarding procedures
- Promote a safe, inclusive and person-centred environment
Requirements
- Relevant healthcare qualification and professional registration where applicable
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND xgikmsk and/or complex medical needs
- Strong understanding of safeguarding
- Experience managing healthcare plans and medical procedures
- Excellent communication and multidisciplinary working skills
- Ability to work confidently within an education or specialist SEND environment
- Experience of working with learners with PMLD, SLD or complex needs would be highly advantageous
