Waking Night Support Worker - Make a Difference Every Day
We're looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic support worker to support a friendly, affectionate 30-year-old gentleman. He is non-verbal and lives with autism and epilepsy. This is a rewarding opportunity for a waking night support worker who wants to make a positive difference every day.
As a waking night support worker, you'll provide person-centred support tailored to his needs, help him feel safe and comfortable overnight, and follow his care plans. Building a trusting relationship will be central to your role.
About the Role
As a waking night support worker, you'll remain awake and available throughout your shift, supporting him if he wakes or needs assistance. You'll help maintain his wellbeing, follow his routines and care plans, and respond calmly to his individual needs.
Patience and understanding are essential. As he is non-verbal, you'll need to recognise his communication methods and respond appropriately. A calm, consistent approach will help build trust and confidence. The waking night support worker will also need to follow his epilepsy management guidance and safety procedures.
His Interests and Hobbies
He has a fantastic sense of humour and enjoys Mr Bean, Marvel films, Harry Potter, Scooby-Doo and Looney Tunes. Getting to know these interests can help you build a positive relationship with him.
He loves travelling in his own mobility vehicle and exploring new places on long drives. He also enjoys finishing the day with a McDonald's teatime treat. Every fortnight, he visits his mum and stepdad; these visits are important to him and provide valuable family time. As his waking night support worker, you'll be part of a team that helps him enjoy these activities and maintain familiar routines.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking a compassionate waking night support worker who is patient, dependable and enthusiastic. You'll need to understand the importance of choice, dignity and independence.
As a waking night support worker, you'll need to feel confident adapting your approach to his individual needs and following his support plans.
Previous experience supporting people with autism and epilepsy.
A caring, patient and positive attitude.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
The ability to recognise and respond to non-verbal communication.
A commitment to person-centred support and promoting independence.
The ability to follow care plans and safety procedures.
Reliability and a responsible approach to work.
Flexibility to work 12-hour waking night shifts.
Why Join This Role?
This waking night support worker position offers the chance to make a genuine difference to someone's quality of life. You'll help him feel safe and supported overnight, while contributing to his independence, wellbeing and connection with the people and activities he enjoys.
If you're dedicated and passionate about delivering high-quality care, we'd love to hear from you.
