An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Environmental Health & Enforcement Officer to join a busy and dynamic local authority team in Wembley.

This is an ongoing temporary assignment requiring a candidate with strong environmental health, regulatory or enforcement experience who can confidently manage planning consultations, assess environmental impacts and provide professional technical advice to planning officers and stakeholders.

The Role

You will act as a key consultee to the Local Planning Authority, reviewing planning applications and assessing the potential environmental impact of development proposals.

Working within a specialist regulatory services team, you will provide expert advice on environmental health matters including noise, vibration, disturbance, operating hours and other issues that could affect residents and communities.

Your recommendations will help shape planning decisions and ensure developments comply with relevant legislation and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and analyse planning applications and supporting documentation.
  • Provide professional environmental health responses to planning officers.
  • Review development proposals for potential environmental impacts.
  • Recommend planning conditions, informatives and mitigation measures.
  • Assess issues relating to noise, vibration, nuisance and quality of life impacts.
  • Respond to pre-application enquiries and provide technical advice to applicants.
  • Liaise with environmental consultants regarding assessment methodologies and requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records on council systems and digital platforms.
  • Work closely with planning, regulatory services and other council departments.
  • Support the review and maintenance of environmental health guidance documents.
  • Prepare clear, concise and accurate reports and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the council's environmental sustainability objectives.

About You

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience in an Environmental Health, Enforcement or Regulatory Services role.
  • Experience operating at a senior level within an enforcement environment.
  • Experience assessing complex cases and making evidence-based recommendations.
  • Experience working with contractors, consultants, public sector partners and external agencies.
  • Experience dealing sensitively and professionally with members of the public.
  • Understanding of planning consultations and environmental impacts of development.

Desirable

  • Environmental Health qualification or relevant professional experience.
  • Experience within a local authority regulatory services environment.
  • Knowledge of planning legislation and environmental protection regulations.
  • Experience dealing with noise, nuisance, licensing or planning consultation matters.
