Responsibilities
- Interpret requirements, effectively plan and deliver all elements of railway de‑vegetation works.
- Complete all works to high and safe standards, adhering to internal procedures and industry standards.
- Effectively and safely supervise a small team in de‑vegetation works, completing risk assessments and team briefings.
- Operate all plant, tools and equipment necessary to complete work ensuring a high standard of equipment care (e.g. ensure pre‑user checks completed, defects escalated and recorded).
- Safe removal/clearance of vegetation as per contract requirements – carrying out accurate tree identification and ensuring work sites are left tidy.
- Respond sensitively and appropriately to queries from lineside residents.
- Observe and follow all applicable safe methods of working, and health, safety and environmental rules/procedures.
- Report any incidents or close calls immediately to the appropriate person.
Qualifications & Skills
- Recent experience working as an operative in vegetation clearance within the railway sector/environment.
- Proficiency/skill in climbing/working at height.
- Competencies including PTS, COSS, chainsaw, aerial rescue, lead climber, chainsaw from rope & harness.
- Understanding of leading/coaching/mentoring and developing a team.
- Confident working with various tools and possess a good working knowledge of health and safety practices.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Natural ability to build good working relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Methodical approach to problem‑solving with excellent attention to detail.
- Regular drug and alcohol testing.
