Help Shape the UK’s Energy Future
As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C, a 3.2‑gigawatt power station generating low‑carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, playing a key role in the UK’s energy future.
What will you do?
- The CWA is recruiting a Temporary Works Designer to join its Engineering and Assurance team, supporting the delivery of one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes.
- The role works across site and office locations and involves designing, coordinating, and assuring temporary works solutions throughout all stages of the project lifecycle, collaborating closely with construction teams, designers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Design and check a wide range of temporary works solutions in line with BS 5975, Eurocodes, CIRIA and relevant standards.
- Deliver temporary works designs that interface effectively with permanent works, ensuring buildability, safety and programme alignment.
- Produce and review calculations, drawings, reports and designers’ risk assessments.
- Provide technical advice on construction methodology, sequencing and buildability to site teams.
- Review and assure third‑party and subcontractor temporary works designs.
- Support the preparation of Approval in Principle (AIP) documentation for client and stakeholder approval.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement across the temporary works function.
- Support digital design processes and collaborative working across the wider CWA organisation.
What are we looking for?
- Proven experience delivering temporary works design on major civil or infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical capability across temporary works such as haul roads, working platforms, formwork, falsework, scaffolding, shoring and access structures.
- Degree qualified in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Minimum 7 years’ relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a temporary works design role.
- Good working knowledge of BS 5975, Eurocodes and UK health and safety legislation.
- Experience using engineering design software and BIM/CAD tools.
- Chartered status or working towards chartership (ICE or IStructE preferred).
- Collaborative communicator with a disciplined approach to quality, safety and assurance.
- Commitment to designing out risk and championing safety through design.
