Apprentice Estimator Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C. As part of the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), you will support the building of Sizewell C. The project is a 3.2‑gigawatt power station generating low‑carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the Main Civil Works Section.

As an Estimating Apprentice, you’ll be right at the heart of the action, learning how to develop accurate cost estimates for one of the UK's most exciting infrastructure projects. This isn’t just a job—it's the first step in a rewarding career in estimating, construction, or project management. Here’s what you’ll get to do:

• Work alongside experienced Estimators to develop first‑principles estimates for the Civil Works Program, ensuring every pound is accounted for.
• Review drawings and specifications to create costing sheets for materials, labour, and equipment—helping to shape the future of the project.
• Learn how to assess design options and value solutions, ensuring the project is both cost‑effective and high‑quality.
• Use industry‑leading software like Candy Estimating Software and RIB Cost X to develop pricing and bills of quantities.
• Collaborate with project teams and the supply chain to understand methodologies and ensure estimates are realistic and achievable.
• Support presentations and negotiations, learning how to justify pricing to senior leaders and external stakeholders.
• Track changes to estimates and budgets as the project evolves, gaining hands‑on experience in project management.

• Academic Requirements: A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9‑4 (A‑C)*, including Maths and English. A‑Levels or equivalent (e.g., BTEC, T‑Levels) in a relevant subject (e.g., Maths, Science, Business, or Engineering) are desirable but not essential.
• Skills and Behaviours: A strong interest in numbers, problem‑solving, and construction. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain ideas clearly and confidently. A can‑do attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work well in a team. Attention to detail—estimating is all about precision! Humility: Open to learning from others and embracing new ideas. Positivity: Proactively challenges poor quality, identifies solutions, and encourages new ideas. Respect: Values the rules, environment, and people you work with. • Desirable: Previous experience with Excel or similar software (e.g., through school, college, or personal projects). An interest in construction, engineering, or project management. Mobile and flexible, with the ability to adapt to the demands of a large‑scale project.
