We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a growing, innovative SME manufacturing organisation based in Warwick. This permanent role will play a key part in delivering high-quality mechanical and electromechanical design solutions, supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture, installation, and ongoing product support.
Operating within a fast-paced SME environment, this role will work closely with manufacturing, suppliers, sales, and customers to deliver robust, compliant, and commercially viable engineering solutions. The role will also involve mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.
The Responsibilities
- Produce 3D models, detailed technical drawings, and engineering documentation using 3D CAD software
- Lead and contribute to concept development, prototyping, testing, and design iterations
- Design mechanical and electromechanical systems with a strong focus on design for manufacture and assembly
- Conduct feasibility studies for new project and product requests
- Support new product introduction from concept through to mass manufacture
- Conduct engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and material selection
- Prepare and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and design records
- Liaise with suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturing partners to ensure design feasibility, quality, and cost control
- Identify and resolve manufacturing, product performance, and installation issues
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, improve quality, and simplify production processes
- Provide technical support to production, sales, specification, and customer service teams
- Ensure all designs comply with UK and international standards, regulations, and safety requirements
- Maintain accurate project documentation, ensuring records are complete, current, and appropriately stored
- Identify project risks and support planning to ensure successful delivery
- Mentor, support, and develop junior engineers
- Lead major engineering projects and design activities
- Contribute to defining, maintaining, and improving engineering and business processes
- Support bid and pitch activities by advising on technical feasibility and delivery capability
- Occasional national and international travel to suppliers and project locations
The Ideal Mechanical Engineer
- Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related engineering discipline
- Proven experience in a design engineering role within a manufacturing environment (SME experience highly desirable)
- Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred; CATIA, Inventor, Fusion or similar considered)
- Good understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes
- Experience designing mechanical and electromechanical systems
- Practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to support wider business needs
- Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage workload independently while working effectively within a team
- Design for automated manufacture
- Modern manufacturing methods (CNC/CAM, additive manufacturing, laser processing, robotics, special purpose machinery)
- Experience leading engineering activities such as FMEA, design reviews, and risk management
- Previous experience mentoring or developing junior engineers
- Experience within technical shading systems, bespoke blinds, or a similar industry
