Based at Sellafield Operational Policing Unit. Hours based on an average of 37 hours per week utilising a 24/7 rotating 12 Hour Shift Pattern. Salary up to £26,048 per annum plus up to a 20% shift allowance (once training period is complete) and a generous benefits package.

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service that’s dedicated to the nuclear industry. Our vision is to be recognised as a provider of a world-class service for the protection of nuclear material and facilities. As a Communications Operator and Dispatcher, you’ll be the first point of contact to our on-site emergency services and members of the public that require our assistance. You will:

  • Answer emergency and non-emergency calls from a variety of people.
  • Take initial reports, transfer information, and dispatch the required resources.
  • Gather relevant information and intelligence which enables our emergency services to fulfil their roles.
  • Play an integral part of maintaining the security and safety of the nuclear site by helping to manage critical incidents and liaise with members of the public in and around the local area.
  • Ensure all requests receive an appropriate response or resolution.
  • Manage critical incidents and pre-planned events appropriately.
  • Record important information while following organisational procedures to keep all information well managed, secure, and comprehensive.

This demanding role requires you to listen, ask appropriate questions, and consider options for actions while responding quickly and sensitively. You’ll join colleagues who have extensive knowledge of police regulations and the highest level of integrity. They’ll train you and help you meet the high standards required for this role.

To truly excel, you’ll bring fantastic listening and communication skills along with an ability to demonstrate resilience working under pressure. The post holder will be required to work regular 12 hour shifts on a 24/7 shift pattern including nights and weekends. You will also be required to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) level clearance, and commencement of this role will be subject to a medical assessment.
