Salary circa £90K pa plus a £2,000 South East allowance per annum (for individuals based at Culham) and a generous benefits package, including an attractive pension.

Based at Culham, Oxfordshire or Calder Bridge, Cumbria (hybrid working policy applies). Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week).

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service dedicated to the nuclear industry. Our vision is to be recognised nationally and internationally as the United Kingdom’s leading organisation for protective policing of the civil nuclear industry and other critical infrastructure. Given the critical nature of our work, we seek skilled and committed professionals to join our team.

We are seeking a Chief People Officer (CPO) responsible for championing and implementing our People Strategy, providing leadership in building the capability of the People function. The CPO will drive HR structures, systems, and service delivery to support strategic and operational goals.

Responsible for implementing People initiatives within the Business Plan and 3-Year Strategy, under the direction of the CNC Executive, ensuring the People Directorate is structured, resourced, and capable to deliver high performance and customer-focused services. The CPO acts as the lead HR adviser to the Police Authority and as a business partner to the Deputy Chief Constable and Executive on all people-related matters, including HR, People Change, Pay and Reward, Health and Safety, and Occupational Health, working closely with security vetting teams.

Ensuring workforce capability now and in the future, the CPO will oversee workforce planning, succession, and talent management to support CNC’s operational effectiveness. The CPO will provide advice, guidance, and leadership on people management in complex stakeholder environments, managing organisational change programs effectively.

This role offers an opportunity to demonstrate senior leadership potential and future progression to an executive level. Candidates should ideally hold a degree (Level 7) or equivalent, preferably with a Master’s degree, and be full members of CIPD, ideally Fellows, with strong executive management skills and commercial awareness. Candidates should also be prepared to undertake the College of Policing’s executive leadership development programme.
