Our client, a nursery in South London, has recently been through a transformation and is now looking for a Room Leader to help shape what comes next.

This isn't a standard Room Leader role. The nursery wants someone with genuine leadership experience who can lead and develop a team, set the standard of practice in the room, and grow their own career in Early Years. You'll have a real voice in how the room runs and a clear chance to make an impact and progress.

What we offer:

  • Salary up to Β£36,000, depending on experience
  • Company pension
  • Refer-a-friend bonus
  • Free lunch once a week
  • Private GP appointments
  • Regular staff socials
  • A real chance to make an impact and progress your Early Years career in a nursery that's investing in its future

Key Responsibilitities

Leading and developing the team

  • Lead, motivate and organise the room team day to day, including rotas, deployment and ratios
  • Coach and develop practitioners through modelling, regular supervisions and constructive feedback
  • Support onboarding of new starters and apprentices and identify training needs
  • Build a positive, accountable team culture that reflects the nursery's new direction
  • Deputise for senior leaders when required

Setting the standard of practice

  • Plan and deliver a high-quality, child-led curriculum in line with the EYFS
  • Oversee observations, assessments and learning journals so every child's progress is tracked and supported
  • Make sure the room environment is stimulating, well-resourced and inclusive
  • Support key persons to identify and act on additional needs, working with the SENCo
  • Monitor quality in the room and contribute to the nursery's improvement plan

Safeguarding, health and safety

  • Act as a strong safeguarding role model and follow all safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Maintain accurate records, including accidents, incidents, medication and daily care
  • Carry out risk assessments and make sure the room meets health, safety and hygiene standards
  • Keep the room inspection-ready in line with Ofsted requirements

Working with parents and the wider nursery

  • Build warm, professional relationships with parents and carers and keep them updated on progress
  • Lead parent meetings and support smooth settling-in and transitions between rooms
  • Work closely with the management team and other Room Leaders to share good practice
  • Contribute ideas and energy to the nursery's continued development

About you:

  • Full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification (or above)
  • Genuine experience leading a room or team in an Early Years setting
  • Strong working knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding and Ofsted expectations
  • A track record of coaching and developing others and raising standards
  • Confident communicator with parents, colleagues and managers
  • Paediatric First Aid certificate, or willing to obtain
  • Enhanced DBS check, or willing to complete one

What we're looking for in you

  • A natural leader who sets the tone and leads by example
  • Calm, organised and solutions-focused
  • Passionate about outstanding care and children's learning
  • Open to feedback and keen to keep growing
