We’re hiring for a Payroll Controller to work in our NHS team who deliver fully managed payroll services for parts of the NHS. Reporting to the NHS Payroll Team Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of fully managed payroll processing as outlined below, supported by NHS Payroll Administrators. You will deliver managed payroll services to NHS Trusts end to end including data input, payroll processing and reporting, BACS processing and Legislative reporting using ESR (Electronic Staff Record) which is the national payroll software for the NHS. You will act as the first point of contact for Trust employees and Trust staff managing any day to day issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • To key and check and process payroll input
  • To produce monthly reporting for the client and submit BACS upon authorization
  • Producing scheduled payroll reports and payslips
  • To ensure all payments are processed accurately and on time according to the agreed schedules
  • To handle client queries in a professional and friendly manner with agreed resolutions and outcomes
  • To maintain communication with 3rd parties such as HMRC, NHS Pensions and Courts.
  • To process year end returns accurately and on time
  • To ensure compliance to all legislative requirements
  • To update your skills in line with the NHS specific changes which are communicated by our Specialist Team and ESR user notices.
  • Organising Monthly Conference calls with clients to discuss performance and any issues that have arisen during the month.
  • Compliance with the Data Protection Act and GDPR
  • Any other duties as required by your Team Manager

Minimum Requirements

  • An understanding of Payroll legislation (essential)
  • An understanding of NHS Terms and Conditions (preferred)
  • A working knowledge of statutory deductions and how these are calculated (essential)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (essential)
  • Ability to prioritise and remain calm under pressure (essential)
  • Understand the need to follow established processes and run sheets as set out by our NHS Specialist Team.
  • Ability to use own initiative and lead within a team
  • Ability to think logically and solve problems effectively
  • Have a positive β€˜get the job done’ attitude
  • CIPP Qualified or equivalent (preferred)
  • Experience of working in a customer focused environment
  • Experience of processing payrolls accurately and on time, NHS specific experience preferred but not essential.
  • Experience of communicating with stakeholders and employees in a professional and helpful manner
