Senior Archaeologist, who will lead archaeological projects, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practices. They will manage fieldwork, analysis, and reporting, while mentoring staff and liaising with relevant stakeholders. Knowledge of the planning process and national and local planning legislation. Experience with working on projects across the UK, on different site types and periods.
Key elements of the job
- Plan, manage, and deliver archaeological investigations (evaluations, watching briefs, excavations)
- Supervise and mentor archaeologists
- Willingness to travel and work away on site
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and archives
- Produce post-excavation reports, analysis and interpretation (Microsoft Word)
- Prepare publications
- Liaise with contractors, clients and local planning archaeologists
- Input into bids and preparing fee proposals
- Prepare Project Designs / Written Schemes of Investigation
- Responsible for own time management and others
- Community engagement and / or educational presentations, when required
- Self-checking and reviewing other team members work
- Ensure projects meet regulatory requirements
- Ability to carry out physically demanding work in an outdoor environment, in all weather conditions

- Degree in Archaeology/History (or related / relevant field)
- Chartered Institute for Archaeologists membership, or commitment to obtaining
- First aid trained
- Proficiency in relevant software (GIS, CAD, database systems)
