We are looking for a talented and collaborative Senior / Principal Civil Engineer who shares our purpose and desire to make a positive difference to the world around them. Sustainable design is at the heart of our Practice and collectively we can create inspirational designs that will protect our climate and enhance the built environment. As a Senior / Principal Civil Engineer, you will join one of our friendly studios, bringing with you experience across a mix of sectors including residential, education, commercial, development and regeneration. Collaborative and helpful you will have the opportunity to work closely with high profile private and public-sector clients, influencing with your technical expertise and effective communication skills. Leadership is an evolving skill that you will develop alongside your people management, business development and commercial abilities. Your people and solutions focus, communication and contractual awareness will be demonstrable through past projects. Guiding, developing, and supporting a team of value driven engineers, your skills in project resource planning and deadline management will be fully engaged and developed. We are looking for a progressive and talented engineer who is keen to influence the people around them with the same understanding and empathy that they bring to their engineering. We hope you will share our strong interest in architecture and the wider public realm/built environment and play a key role in our ongoing practice and growth strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Team Management: Lead and mentor project teams, overseeing engineers of varying experience levels.
  • Project Leadership: Take charge of multiple projects, ensuring they meet or exceed quality standards and deadlines. Engage with clients, collaborators, and stakeholders while efficiently allocating resources and coordinating processes according to our QMS and IMS.
  • Development and Training: Assist in the development of junior team members, identifying training needs, equipment requirements, and software licenses.
  • Project Profitability: Monitor project profitability, striving to deliver projects within budget and timelines, and communicate any potential billing or labour plan changes to Project Associates or Directors.
  • Client Relations: Maintain and enhance our reputation in client-facing roles, contribute to securing repeat business, and identify new opportunities. Participate in bids for new projects as needed.

Key Skills / Competencies

  • In-depth understanding of industry processes, including planning applications, procurement, and technical approvals.
  • Proficiency in industry software like Microdrainage, Causeway Flow, Civil 3D, and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, graphical).
  • Exceptional report-writing skills.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High proficiency in MS Office products (Excel, Word).
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Strong teamwork and time management skills.

Degree qualified you will ideally be Chartered or Incorporated with an industry institution such as ICE, IStructe, CIWEM, or CIHT and have strong relevant experience with a proven track record of delivering projects.
