The role focuses on reducing offending and reoffending, promoting positive outcomes, supporting rehabilitation, and helping young people build a pro-social identity while addressing the impact of trauma. The post holder will work collaboratively with families, partner agencies, and local communities to ensure children and young people receive appropriate support and opportunities to achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver interventions and support tailored to the individual needs of children, young people, their families, and caregivers to reduce offending and prevent reoffending.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor diversionary programmes and community-based interventions where appropriate.
  • Manage and monitor young people progressing through the court process, referral orders, and referral order panels.
  • Prepare and present Pre-Sentence Reports and other statutory reports in accordance with national standards.
  • Act as Case Manager for court orders, Youth Rehabilitation Orders, and other youth justice interventions as required.
  • Provide supervision and support to young people subject to community sentences, licence conditions, and post-custody arrangements.
  • Contribute to remand and Bail Support Services.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies, stakeholders, families, and local communities to achieve positive outcomes for young people.
  • Promote restorative approaches that address offending behaviour while recognising and responding to the needs of victims.
  • Develop and deliver creative and evidence-based intervention programmes to support rehabilitation and personal development.
  • Contribute to quality assurance activities, service improvement initiatives, and performance objectives within the Youth Justice Service.
  • Maintain accurate records, case files, reports, and administrative processes in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
  • Participate in training, supervision, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Ensure all practice is anti-oppressive, inclusive, and responsive to the diverse needs of children, young people, and families.
  • Keep up to date with legislation, policy, and developments relating to youth justice and safeguarding.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children, young people, and families in a social care, youth justice, education, youth work, or related setting.
  • Knowledge of youth justice principles, safeguarding, and child development.
  • Ability to engage effectively with children and young people who may present challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a caseload, prioritise work, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with partner agencies and stakeholders.
  • Commitment to restorative, trauma-informed, and child-centred approaches.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and produce high-quality reports.
  • Experience working within a Youth Justice or Youth Offending Service.
  • Knowledge of court processes, community sentencing, and youth rehabilitation programmes.
  • Experience preparing reports for courts or multi-agency panels.
  • Relevant qualification in youth work, criminal justice, social care, education, or a related field.
