We are seeking a seasoned Senior Technical Surveyor to join Somerset Council's Housing Adaptations Service on a 12-month contract. This role is pivotal in delivering a variety of home adaptation projects that empower vulnerable residents to maintain independence and safety in their homes. You will manage Disabled Facilities Grant projects, ranging from minor adjustments to major extensions and complex modifications. Collaborating with Occupational Therapists, contractors, and other stakeholders, you will oversee projects from assessment to completion, ensuring compliance with regulations and managing budgets effectively.
Responsibilities
- Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) Assessments
- Evaluate applications for DFGs and determine funding eligibility.
- Conduct financial assessments and advise on funding options.
- Prepare recommendations and funding decisions.
- Project Design & Specification
- Develop detailed specifications and architectural drawings using AutoCAD.
- Design various home adaptations, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations.
- Principal Designer Duties
- Fulfill the role of Principal Designer under CDM Regulations 2015.
- Coordinate health and safety requirements and prepare Health & Safety Files.
- Planning & Building Control
- Prepare and submit planning and building regulations applications.
- Liaise with relevant teams throughout project delivery.
- Contract & Project Management
- Obtain and assess tenders, oversee contractor performance, and manage project budgets.
- Site Inspections
- Conduct site visits to monitor quality and resolve technical issues.
- Budget Management
- Manage project budgets, monitor grant allocations, and process invoices.
- Partnership Working
- Collaborate with Occupational Therapists, social care teams, and other partners to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Case & Data Management
- Maintain accurate records and produce performance reports as required.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with Disabled Facilities Grants and home adaptations.
- Previous experience in roles such as Senior Technical Surveyor, Building Surveyor, or Architect.
- Proficiency in managing construction projects and preparing technical drawings with AutoCAD.
- Strong knowledge of Building Regulations and CDM Regulations 2015.
- Experience working with vulnerable residents and managing contractors.
- Degree or HND in Building Surveying, Architecture, or a related field.
- Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
