7-month contract position with a local authority
Summary
- This is a 7-month contract position with a local authority aimed at supporting schools, children, young people, and families to improve school attendance and reduce persistent absence. The Attendance Officer will be part of the School Attendance Support Service, offering advice, intervention, challenge, and support to families and educational settings. The goal is to ensure children have access to education and achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities
- Monitor attendance data and identify pupils at risk of persistent absence.
- Work proactively with schools to implement attendance improvement strategies.
- Support schools in addressing barriers preventing regular attendance.
- Assist in the development and delivery of attendance action plans.
- Build positive relationships with children, young people, parents, and carers.
- Conduct home visits to engage families and assess barriers to attendance.
- Facilitate meetings with parents, carers, and pupils to promote regular school attendance.
- Provide guidance and support to families to improve educational participation.
Essential Experience Required
- Experience working with children, young people, and families.
- Experience within an educational setting.
- Previous experience supporting or improving school attendance.
Essential Qualifications Required
- Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
- Evidence of relevant professional development relating to education, attendance, family support, safeguarding, or child welfare.
Additional Information
- Working hours: 30 hours per week
- Working structure: 30 hours across 4 days
- Enhanced DBS with barred list required.
- Hybrid arrangements: Remote working with home/school visits
- Term time only β March 31st, 2027, with potential extension
