2 years contract role with a Local Authority.

The Engineer will support Slough Borough Council’s Regeneration, Housing and Environment directorate in delivering highway and transport infrastructure projects. The role involves producing high-quality designs across all project stages, with a focus on public transport, active travel, and road safety schemes. This is a long-term contract position requiring both technical design expertise and financial awareness, working in a hybrid arrangement.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:

  • Produce design documentation for highway and transport projects, including concept, preliminary, and detailed designs.
  • Prepare drawings, calculations, reports, and technical specifications.
  • Deliver schemes relating to public transport, cycling, walking, and road safety improvements.
  • Ensure designs comply with UK highway standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20).
  • Use industry-standard software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Keylines, Keysigns, and Vehicle Tracking.
  • Support project delivery from inception through to completion.
  • Monitor project budgets and maintain financial control.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, stakeholders, and external consultants.
  • Contribute to regeneration and infrastructure improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Skills/Experience:

  • Proven experience in highway and transport engineering design.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK highway design standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20).
  • Experience designing public transport and active travel schemes (cycling and walking).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Keylines, Keysigns, and Vehicle Tracking software.
  • Experience producing technical drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Budget monitoring and financial management experience.
  • Good understanding of road safety engineering principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Location: Hybrid working (3 days per week on-site at Observatory House, Slough).
