Job Purpose

To lead and manage the Property Compliance Service within the Housing Directorate, ensuring all statutory and regulatory requirements are met across the Council’s property portfolio. This role is crucial for safeguarding residents, assets, and the Council’s reputation by maintaining full compliance with legislation, government policies, and best practice standards.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Provide strong leadership as part of the Directorate Senior Leadership Team to deliver strategic priorities and financial targets.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Council, promoting its vision, values, and corporate objectives.
  • Advise elected members, senior leadership, and stakeholders on compliance and operational matters.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, risk management, and service transformation initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and high employee engagement.

Essential Experience Required

  • Proven experience managing property compliance in a social housing or similar environment.
  • Strong track record of leading teams and delivering service improvements.
  • Experience managing fire safety compliance, including fire risk assessments.
  • Experience managing budgets, contracts, and complex service delivery.
  • Experience working within statutory and regulatory frameworks.

Essential Qualifications Required

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Environmental Health, Science, or a related field OR Relevant professional experience in a related technical or regulatory field with a suitable qualification.
  • Good general education (minimum A-level or equivalent).
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as: Asbestos Management (P405), Water Hygiene / Legionella (P901), NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent experience).
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.

Additional Information

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week.
  • Basic DBS required.
  • Location: Deane Depot, Taunton, Somerset, TA219AD, United Kingdom.
  • Work pattern: Flexible, typically 2 days remote, 3 days in the office.
