This role, on a 2-month contract with a local authority, is situated within the Housing Advice, Information, and Assessment Service. It aims to deliver a proactive, holistic, personalized, and integrated Housing Advice and Support service. The primary objective is to prevent and relieve homelessness while supporting service users to live independently.
Responsibilities:
- Provide advice on security of tenure, possession proceedings, housing rights following relationship breakdown, welfare and housing benefits, tax credits, debt counseling, housing options, employment and training opportunities, and long-term accommodation options.
- Adopt a casework approach to identify solutions that meet customer needs, assisting them in accessing necessary services to achieve desired outcomes.
- Develop and review solution-focused and person-centered action/support plans with both short and long-term goals to meet customer needs.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships, collaborating with internal and external individuals and organizations to support vulnerable adults and young people.
- Conduct relevant inquiries, assess accommodation eligibility, and make complex decisions in line with prevailing legislation, codes of guidance, case law, and policy, with emphasis on the Housing Act 1996 as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002 & 2004, or subsequent legislation.
- Issue decision letters that comply with the requirements of prevailing legislation, codes of guidance, and case law.
Requirements:
- In-depth working knowledge of housing options and housing legislation, particularly Part VI and VII of the Housing Act 1996 (as amended), Security of Tenure, Welfare and Housing Benefits, and Immigration.
- Experience in providing support, advice, and guidance in a complex environment.
- General education or related qualification is essential.
Additional Information:
Working hours: 36 hours per week. We work on a bi-weekly payment schedule. The role closes on 12th January 2026, apply ASAP.
