3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
To support the delivery of maintenance, fencing, groundwork, glazing, and carpentry works across social housing properties by assisting trade operatives and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. The Labourer will work closely with tenants, contractors, and colleagues while contributing to a professional and customer-focused service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist ground workers, fencers, carpenters, and glaziers with day-to-day maintenance and repair works.
- Prepare work areas, move materials, tools, and equipment, and maintain clean and safe working environments.
- Support operatives with fencing, groundwork, glazing, carpentry, and general repair tasks.
- Carry out basic labouring duties in occupied social housing properties and communal areas.
- Interact professionally and respectfully with tenants, including dealing sensitively with challenging situations where required.
- Follow health and safety procedures and ensure compliance with site and organisational standards.
- Report issues, hazards, damages, or tenant concerns to supervisors promptly.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and transportation of materials and equipment.
- Work collaboratively with the wider maintenance team to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn new skills and support progression toward becoming a qualified operative.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Labourer within social housing, maintenance, construction, or repairs environments.
- Experience assisting tradespeople such as ground workers, fencers, carpenters, or glaziers.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and carry out manual handling tasks safely.
- Experience working in occupied properties and interacting with tenants professionally.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging tenant situations.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices on site.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Practical skills or experience within construction or maintenance trades would be advantageous.
