6-Month Contract with a Local Authority

This role is designed to deliver a comprehensive, efficient, and customer-focused service across Benefits and Housing Needs. The position supports residents with financial assistance, housing advice, and homelessness prevention. It ensures accurate assessments, compliance with legislation, and effective support for vulnerable households while protecting public funds and promoting sustainable housing outcomes. The postholder will also contribute to service development, partnership working, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a full range of Benefits and Housing Needs services, including:
    • Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction assessments
    • Discretionary Housing Payments and welfare support
    • Homelessness prevention, assessments, and reviews
    • Housing Register management, lettings, and allocations
    • Housing supply and procurement
    • Temporary accommodation management and resettlement
  • Provide high-quality advice and support to a diverse and vulnerable customer base.
  • Conduct customer interviews, home visits, and property inspections where required.

Essential Experience Required

  • Extensive experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Homelessness prevention, assessments, and reviews
    • Temporary accommodation management
    • Housing allocations and lettings
    • Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction
    • Housing procurement and supply
    • Discretionary payments and welfare support
  • Experience managing complex casework in a high-pressure environment.

Essential Qualifications Required

  • Relevant qualification in Housing, Benefits, Public Sector, or equivalent experience (desirable).
