HIAB Driver / Electrician Assistant – 3 Month Contract

Rate: Β£20.49 per hour (Umbrella)

Hours: Full Time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm
Pay: Bi-weekly

Summary


Are you passionate about working outdoors and engaging in hands-on tasks? NY Highways is seeking skilled HIAB Driver / Electrician Assistants to aid in the installation and upkeep of street lighting, signage, and highway infrastructure throughout North Yorkshire. This role offers a diverse range of activities, including driving, excavation, groundworks, traffic management, and supporting electricians with street lighting installations. While driving is a component of the job, the primary focus is on manual excavation and groundworks, making it perfect for those who thrive in outdoor environments and enjoy teamwork.

Responsibilities


  • Operate LGV Class 2 vehicles and HIAB lifting equipment.
  • Support the installation of street lighting columns and roadside infrastructure.
  • Excavate pits and trenches for lighting installations and connection points.
  • Perform reinstatement tasks such as:
    • Tarmac
    • Flags
    • Block paving
    • General highway repairs
  • Conduct safe digging around underground utilities.
  • Assist electricians with both underground and above-ground installations.
  • Establish and maintain traffic management setups.
  • Conduct dynamic site risk assessments and modify work activities as needed.
  • Safely load and unload materials, equipment, and machinery.
  • Accurately complete paperwork and electronic records.
  • Adhere to NY Highways policies, procedures, and health and safety standards.

Requirements:

  • Experience in:
    • Groundworks
    • Utilities
    • Excavation
    • Highways Maintenance
    • Street Lighting Installation
  • Possession of an LGV Class 2 Driving Licence.
  • HGV/LGV Licence with CPC Qualification.
  • Vehicle Mounted Crane (HIAB) Certificate.
  • Valid Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Understanding of safe digging practices and underground utilities.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding excavation tasks.
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Strong awareness of health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and initiative.

Desirable


  • NRSWA Qualification.
  • CSCS Card.
  • Emergency First Aid Qualification.
  • TM12D Traffic Management Qualification.
  • Experience in the highways or street lighting sector.
  • Manual Handling Training.
  • Abrasive Wheels Training.
