Job Purpose
As a Neighbourhood Services Operative, you will be responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming estates and neighbourhoods across Southern Housing properties. The role involves waste collection, litter picking, bulk refuse removal, void property clearance, and supporting residents by helping to maintain high environmental standards within housing communities.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Carry out litter picking and estate cleaning duties.
- Remove bulk waste, fly-tipped items, and general refuse.
- Undertake void property clearance works.
- Drive company vehicles to estates and housing locations.
- Maintain communal areas to a high standard.
- Clean up spillages and ensure waste is removed safely.
- Carry out jet washing of bin stores and communal areas when required.
- Record collections and waste removal activities accurately.
- Identify refuse hotspots and support waste reduction initiatives.
- Report repairs, hazards, and defects in communal areas.
- Liaise positively with residents and provide basic advice when needed.
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
- Support wider Estate Services activities as required.
Essential Experience Required
- Experience undertaking bulk waste collection and clearance.
- Experience carrying out general waste removal duties.
- Experience clearing void properties.
- Experience working in estate services, environmental services, waste management, grounds maintenance, caretaking, or similar roles.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to undertake physically demanding work.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.
Essential Qualifications Required
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Category C1 Driving Licence (Essential).
- Ability to drive company vehicles.
- Understanding of road transport legislation and safe working practices.
Additional Information to Note
- Working hours: 35 hours per week.
- Location: Croydon, Surrey (CR0 6SR).
- Driving Licence with C1 category required.
- Supplier submission deadline: 18th sep 2026.
- We work on bi-weekly payment schedule.
