- This is a 3-month contract opportunity with a local authority, offering a rate of £34.47 per hour under an umbrella arrangement.
The Corporate Health and Safety Adviser plays a crucial role in providing expert leadership, guidance, and support on health and safety matters across the Council.
This position is vital for ensuring adherence to all applicable legislation, regulations, and best practice standards, thereby fostering a safe and compliant working environment.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary adviser for the Council on all corporate health and safety issues.
- Offer expert advice and guidance to managers, employees, and elected Members on health and safety laws, policies, and best practices.
- Encourage and cultivate a proactive and positive health and safety culture within the organisation.
- Assist in the creation and execution of corporate health and safety strategies and improvement plans.
- Ensure adherence to relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and statutory obligations.
- Review, update, and maintain corporate health and safety policies, procedures, and guidance documents.
- Stay informed about legislative changes and emerging best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Provide professional advice on risk management and mitigation strategies.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in a dedicated Health and Safety advisory role.
- Experience within local government, the public sector, or a complex multi-service organisation.
- Proven track record of delivering health and safety advice across diverse organisations.
- Experience in conducting workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Experience in investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Experience in developing and reviewing health and safety policies and procedures.
- Experience in delivering training and awareness programmes.
Essential Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate or an equivalent Health and Safety qualification.
- Membership with IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).
- Evidence of continuous professional development in Health and Safety.
- Additional Information
- Working hours are 37 hours per week.
- Interviews will be conducted either in-person or online.
- Location: London Road, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21 4AH, United Kingdom.
- Work pattern includes 2 days remote and 3 days in the office, with specific days to be arranged with the line manager.
