Job Description

6 Month Contract With A local Authority

Main Purpose of Job

As an Electrician within the Council’s housing maintenance team, you will deliver high-quality electrical services to council tenants and private customers. Your role includes carrying out a wide range of electrical tasks such as rewiring, testing, and general maintenance in compliance with NICEIC rules and IEE Wiring Regulations (BS:7671 – 18th Edition). You will also participate in the Council’s emergency out-of-hours rota.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act on instructions in regard to the safe completion of all electrical activities and tasks, fully complying with all regulations, health and safety requirements, risk assessments, and good working practices.
  • Carry out and complete all electrical works to a high-quality standard and in a competent manner.
  • Ensure the property/work location is left in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Ensure all works are left in a safe manner adhering to safe isolation procedures.
  • Be fully conversant with all aspects of electrical works in both 230v and 400v.
  • Promptly complete and submit all required paperwork such as job sheets, time sheets, delivery tickets, etc., to allow swift processing of recharges and financial monitoring.
  • Execute a high level of customer care when dealing with customers and other clients.
  • Participate on a rota basis to cover out-of-hours emergency work.
  • Carry out minor plaster repairs and joinery works as needed.
  • Carefully manage all equipment and materials supplied for the execution of works and report any concerns or defects noted.
  • Effectively and appropriately engage with tenants and customers regarding works proposed, discussing areas such as work scope, expected duration, levels of inconvenience, and temporary services being provided.
  • Liaise with other staff, surveyors, and subcontractors as necessary to ensure timely completion of works within agreed operational targets.
  • Undertake all necessary new or refresher training to remain fully compliant with legislation and job duties.
  • Observe and comply with the Council’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Leave all works in a safe manner.
  • Undertake other duties reasonably required, compatible with and/or arising from those listed above.
  • Promote and adhere to the workplace values of the organisation.
  • Maintain any works vehicle provided in good condition and comply with the Vehicle Home Policy.

Requirements

  • General building and domestic maintenance work.
  • Inspection, fault finding, and testing of domestic properties.
  • Fully conversant with all aspects of electrical works in both 230v and 400v.
  • Competent knowledge of all relevant health and safety requirements, and ability to highlight potential hazards.
  • Mechanical and engineering installations.
  • Competent in all electrical areas of work.
  • Ability to complete, interpret, and process administration including NICEIC test forms (certificates).
  • Demonstrate high level of communication skills.
  • Physically fit for building trade tasks.
  • Able to work under own initiative or as part of a team.
  • Confident working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Able to read plans and drawings and follow detailed instructions.
  • Good understanding of digital technology and able to use devices such as smartphones and tablets, with knowledge of software such as Microsoft Outlook.
  • City and Guilds 236 parts 1 & 2 or equivalent to currently 18th Edition BS:7671.
  • Minimum of GCSE grade C in Mathematics and English.
  • City and Guilds 2391 testing and inspection.
