6 months contract role with a local authority.

Job Purpose: To lead, manage, and develop the Transport Planning function, delivering transport strategies, policies, and projects that support sustainable travel, improve the public realm, and contribute to wider organizational objectives. The postholder will provide expert professional advice on transport planning matters, oversee complex programs and projects, manage resources and budgets, and build effective partnerships to deliver positive outcomes for local communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Transport Planning team, providing effective supervision, coaching, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and customer focus.
  • Manage team resources and workload allocation to ensure service objectives are achieved.
  • Support the development and well-being of team members through regular performance reviews and professional development activities.
  • Deputize for the Sustainable Transport and Engagement Manager when required.

Requirements:

Essential Experience:

  • Significant post-qualification experience in transport planning across a range of work areas.
  • Experience managing complex transport projects from inception through to implementation.
  • Experience leading, managing, and developing staff within a professional environment.
  • Experience managing relationships with external stakeholders, consultants, and partner organizations.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Transport Planning, Transportation Engineering, Geography, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Qualification that supports membership of a recognized professional body.

We work on a bi-weekly schedule. The role closes on 13th July 2026, apply ASAP.
