Job Summary: Join the London Borough of Islington’s Housing Needs and Strategy team to make a real difference for vulnerable residents. You’ll conduct homelessness assessments, make main duty decisions, and provide empathetic, trauma-informed support to those in need. The role involves clearing backlogs, liaising with internal teams and external partners, and safeguarding adults and children.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:

  • Conduct homelessness assessments and make decisions under relevant legislation.
  • Provide trauma-informed support to rough sleepers, care leavers, victims of domestic abuse, asylum seekers, and LGBTQ+ residents.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Adult Social Care, Children’s Services, hospitals, MARAC) and external agencies (RSLs, probation, voluntary sector).
  • Make referrals to relevant support services and public bodies.
  • Respond to councillor enquiries, complaints, and LGSCO investigations.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with GDPR and council policies.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.

Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with vulnerable individuals in housing, health, or social care settings.
  • Knowledge of homelessness legislation and case law (Housing Act, Homelessness Reduction Act, Domestic Abuse Act).
  • Strong communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining service standards.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding.
