This is a 6-month contract role with a local authority, designed to lead and manage the Committee Services Team. The position is crucial in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and customer-focused support to the Council’s decision-making and scrutiny functions. The role is pivotal in promoting transparency, good governance, and compliance with statutory and constitutional requirements, while driving continuous service improvement.
Responsibilities:- Lead, coordinate, and manage the Committee Services Team to deliver effective governance support across the Council.
- Ensure high-quality administrative and procedural support to Council, Cabinet, committees, panels, boards, and working groups.
- Take personal responsibility for supporting Council and Cabinet meetings, ensuring smooth and compliant decision-making processes.
- Provide expert advice to officers and Members on the Scheme of Delegation and decision-making procedures.
- Ensure all decisions are made in accordance with legislation and the Council’s Constitution.
- Plan, organise, and oversee the strategic delivery of committee services to meet the Council’s democratic requirements.
- Significant experience in committee services, governance, or democratic services.
- Experience managing or supervising teams.
- Experience supporting senior committees (e.g., Cabinet or Council meetings).
- Experience providing procedural or constitutional advice in a local government setting.
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in governance, public administration, or a related field.
- Working hours: 36 hours per week.
- Work pattern: 3 days in office, 2 days remote.
- We work on a bi-weekly schedule.
