Job Title: SEND Casework Officer
Contract Type: 2-Month Contract
Working Pattern
- 7-hour working day / 35 hours per week

Summary
The SEND Casework Officer plays a crucial role in supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This position involves coordinating statutory processes and ensuring that appropriate support is delivered according to the graduated approach. The officer will work closely with schools, families, and multi‑agency partners to manage Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans from assessment through to placement and review. The role requires meeting all statutory requirements while prioritising the needs of children and families in decision‑making. This fast‑paced position demands strong organisational skills, comprehensive knowledge of SEND legislation, and the ability to manage complex caseloads effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the statutory EHC assessment and planning process for children and young people with SEND.
- Ensure all statutory timescales are met in accordance with legislation.
- Support schools, settings, and families in applying the graduated approach to SEND support.
- Build strong working relationships with SENCOs, headteachers, and education providers.
- Collaborate with multi‑agency partners, including health, social care, and educational services.
- Monitor and review pupil progress against outcomes outlined in EHC plans.
- Attend and facilitate annual reviews, particularly for vulnerable pupils.
- Provide advice and guidance to schools and families to improve outcomes for children and young people.
- Ensure parents, carers, and young people are fully involved in planning and decision‑making.
- Maintain accurate records and case management documentation.
- Support efforts to ensure children attend appropriate local educational provision wherever possible.
Experience Required
- Recent experience working within an Education or Children’s Services environment.
- Experience working as a SEND Caseworker or in a similar role (highly desirable).
- Strong knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND legislation.
- Experience managing or supporting EHC plans and statutory assessment processes.
- Experience working with multi‑agency teams to deliver outcomes.
- Experience working with parents and carers in a supportive capacity.
- Experience facilitating or attending review meetings.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong understanding of SEND processes and statutory requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a complex caseload and prioritise effectively.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across services.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel and PowerPoint).
- Strong report writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on positive outcomes for children and families.
