Job Purpose

As a Social Worker within the Family Help – North Locality Team, you will support children, young people, and their families by delivering high-quality assessments, interventions, and Family Help Plans that promote positive and sustainable outcomes. Acting as the Family Help Lead Practitioner, you will work collaboratively with families and partner agencies to safeguard children, manage risk, and provide coordinated support. Through a restorative, relationship-based approach, you will empower families, promote children's wellbeing, and ensure their voices remain central to all decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex caseload of children, young people, and families requiring Family Help and statutory intervention.
  • Complete assessments, develop Family Help Plans, and coordinate effective multi-agency support to improve outcomes.
  • Build positive, restorative relationships with children, families, and professionals to encourage meaningful and lasting change.
  • Identify, assess, and manage safeguarding concerns, working closely with the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT) where appropriate.
  • Chair and contribute to Child in Need, core group, strategy, and other statutory meetings.
  • Undertake risk assessments, implement safeguarding interventions, and contribute to child protection and court proceedings where required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely case records and prepare high-quality reports in line with statutory requirements and professional standards.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies while contributing to a culture of continuous learning, reflective practice, and service improvement.

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with a recognised Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience working with children and families within a statutory social care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child protection legislation, and relevant statutory guidance.
  • Experience of undertaking assessments, risk analysis, care planning, and delivering effective interventions.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and partnership working skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload, produce high-quality reports, and make sound professional decisions in complex situations.
  • Committed to restorative, child-centred practice and improving outcomes for children and families.

Hours per Week: 37 hours
Payment: Bi-weekly
Welcome payment: £10,000
