Nottingham City Council's Enviroenergy service is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to support the delivery of specialist electrical, energy, and infrastructure projects across the district heating network and wider client portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative decentralised energy projects, including the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and upgrade of prepayment metering systems across approximately 5,000 domestic properties within Nottingham's district heating network. The successful candidate will lead electrical works, supervise operatives, support project delivery, and ensure compliance with industry standards while providing a high-quality service to residents and commercial customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical and metering systems.
  • Install and maintain:
    • Prepayment Metering Systems
    • EE Monitor Solutions
    • Heat Meters
    • Data Logging Equipment
    • Associated Electrical Infrastructure
  • Remove and replace existing prepayment units as part of a major upgrade programme.
  • Carry out electrical testing and certification, including completion of Minor Works Certificates.
  • Undertake planned and reactive maintenance on district heating assets.
  • Support works associated with London Road Heat Station and district heating infrastructure.
  • Lead small projects from planning through to completion.
  • Manage resources, materials, and work programmes.
  • Supervise up to 5 operatives, contractors, or agency staff.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Complete RAMS documentation where required.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and project documentation.
  • Liaise with internal teams, contractors, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Support service innovation and the development of new energy solutions.

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship or approved electrical qualification.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
  • AM2 Qualification.
  • City & Guilds 2391 Electrical Inspection & Testing.
  • Ability to test, inspect, and certify electrical works.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Experience carrying out installation, maintenance, and fault-finding on electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience working in customer-facing environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-diagnosis skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
